The Bologna Process

In May 2005, Ukraine joined 40 European countries united by the principles of the Bologna Process. The Bologna Process is called the process of creating a single educational space for European countries today. Its main purpose is to build a pan-European educational space, that is, to bring education systems from different countries closer together to recognize education and diplomas obtained in different European countries by using common concepts for all definitions and measurement mechanisms, as well as to compare the learning outcomes of students from different countries and the transparency of educational activities institutions.

As part of this process, serious work is being done on the conformity of national education with the requirements of the Bologna Declaration in terms of acquiring new qualitative features and, at the same time, preserving the best traditions of the national pedagogical school.

Therefore, nowadays, the training of specialists for higher education is carried out at the university in a two-stage system: the first degree, within the bachelor’s school, is completed after 4 years of study by awarding the bachelor’s degree, and the second, within the master’s school, – after one year of study awarding a master’s degree. Along with the master’s level, there is a specialist level (see specialty for more details).

As part of the Bologna Process, it is proposed to introduce a system of accounting for the complexity of educational work in loans in all national education systems. It is proposed to take ECTS (EuropeanCreditTransferSystem), the European Credit Transfer System, which allows the transfer of credits (credits of hard work of study) obtained in different educational institutions, making it cumulative, capable of working within the concept of “life-long learning”.
