Student self-government of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University is actively developing. It is the base for student development and gaining management experience.

Student council gives an opportunity for participating in the management of the university directly.

Representatives of student self-government are represented in many divisions of higher education institutions: Rectorate, Academic Council, Conferences of the Work Community, Scholarship Committees, etc. Every student who has the desire, can join in making important decisions which influence the functioning and development of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.

An integral part of the Student Council activity is the human rights function. Pursuant to the Law on Higher Education, the issues of scholarships, remittances, transfer of students, settlements to dormitories, are agreed with the Student Council. Therefore, every student has the right to contact representatives of self-government if their rights are violated and the situation will be resolved.

Participation in the work of the Student Council is a huge advantage to the CV. Presently, Ukraine seeks to become a member of the European Union, and in Europe, 90% of students who were members of student government are invited to work for leading companies. After all, their managers can be confident – new employees can make important decisions and be responsible for them.

Participation in the work of the Student Council opens opportunities for exchanging experience with universities in other cities of Ukraine and abroad. The International Student Council Department, together with the International Office of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, launches the «Buddy System» project aimed at accommodating foreign students and integrating them into the university family. This is a nice opportunity for our students to become familiar with different cultures of the world and improve their level of spoken English.
