Commission on the Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University is an independent body acting at the University to guide that every worker at the university complies with the rules of the Code of Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics of our educational institution, which was put into effect on 22.12.2016 by the rector’s decree №390 / 05.

In its activity, the Commission is guided by the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine, the Bucharest Declaration of Ethical Values and Principles for Higher Education in the Europe region, the Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University Charter, University Development Strategy, Internal Labor Rules, Code of Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics, Regulation on the Commission on Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (put into effect by the order of the rector from 05.05.2017 on №131 / 05).

The ideology of the Commission is based on the following values:

1. Preserving the academic and ethical traditions of the university community;
2. Ensuring that academic and ethical traditions are in line with the modern values;
3. The unity of ethical principles of the University and the world academic space;
4. The implementation of academic honor standards and morality through the University’s code of ethics.

The Commission’s policy is based mainly on:

1. Legality and morality of education, integrity of teaching and learning;
2. Responsibility, transparency, ethics of corporate relationships and management;
3. Kindness, tolerance, mutual respect, trust, solidarity of the academic community members;
4. The evolution of tolerance of introducing the latest foundations of academic honor and culture.

The main directions of the activities conducted by the Commission on Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics are to consider the applications from students and teaching staff of the University related to the violation of academic integrity principles and corporate ethics, regular annual analysis of the plagiarism checks of students’ Master’s degree theses and providing appropriate guidance to graduating departments, as well as monitoring the availability and publicity of the current version of the Code of Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University in the structural units of the university, including on their official web pages, violation of problems of functioning and filling of the institutional repository, organization of information and cognitive activities for university students and cooperation issues of adherence to the principles of academic integrity and corporate ethics and cases of their violation. The Commission also occasionally conducts online surveys of students and teachers of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University to determine the status of academic integrity and corporate ethics of the institution staff, possible violations of the principles and rules established in the current Code, provision of recommendations for elimination of violations found in the survey and other problematic cases of non-compliance with the Code of Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics of the University.

The members of the Commission actively cooperate with the Vice-Rector for Scientific Work and the scientific part of the institution within specially created working groups in order to jointly solve important tasks in the field of realization and adherence to the principles of academic ethics at Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.

The Commission on Academic Integrity and Corporate Ethics regularly monitors the latest news on grant proposals for academic integrity promotion projects in Ukraine, supported by the American Councils for International Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, informing students and faculty about university opportunities , projects, programs related to the observance of the principles of academic integrity in the higher education institutions of Ukraine and abroad.

The commission meets monthly (on third week – on Tuesday, at the main building of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, str. 600-richchia, 21, Coworking Center, at 16:30 o’clock) and is always open to dialogue.
