The University has four specialized academic councils for PhD and doctoral dissertation. Due to the provision of additional educational services and lifelong learning, DonNU named after Vasyl Stus realizes its educational mission and is engaged in the trend of legislative consolidation of types of additional education in Ukraine.

The schedule of the educational process and the schedule of training sessions are made in accordance with the working curricula.

The cumulative duration of training, internships, and other types of work during the academic year (course) may not be less than 40 weeks.

The total duration of vacations during the training course, excluding the graduation period, should be at least 8 weeks.

Admission to Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University is carried out by the Admission Committee in accordance with the approved University Admission Rules, developed in compliance with the Conditions for admission to higher education institutions of Ukraine in 2018, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 1378 of October 13, 2017 at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on November 14, 2017 under No. 1397/31265.

Donetsk National University named after Vasyl Stus announces admission for training of specialists with higher education by degrees, specialties (specializations), educational programs, forms of training according to the license within the licensed quantity.

Vasyl’ Stus DonNU accepts citizens of Ukraine, foreigners, as well as stateless persons who reside legally on the territory of Ukraine, have education at the appropriate educational (qualification) level, and have expressed desire to obtain higher education.

All persons receiving higher education at Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University have equal rights and obligations.

Admission to the University for all degrees of education is carried out on the basis of competition regardless of sources of funding.

The University accepts students for senior courses in the order of transfer and renewal within the vacant places of the licensed quantity in accordance with the Regulations on the transfer, expulsion and renewal of students of higher education institutions, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine No. 245 of July 15, 1996 and in accordance with the current Regulations about the procedure of translation and renewal in DonNUU named after Vasyl Stus.

Students with a bachelor’s degree or a previous any other education degree who have graduated from the University and who have been expelled or interrupted in connection with their academic leave are eligible to be renewed to complete the same educational qualification the level of an individual curriculum of the same or related specialty within the specialty at Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University or in another institution of higher education.

  • To obtain a bachelor’s degree – completed a comprehensive secondary education, obtained qualification level of junior specialist
  • To obtain a master’s degree – obtained bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree (educational qualification level of specialist)
  • To obtain a bachelor’s degree in another specialty – bachelor’s degree of at least one year and complete a full individual curriculum, obtained bachelor’s degree or higher (level)
  • For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy – obtained master’s degree (educational qualification level of a specialist)
  • To obtain a Doctor of Science degree – Ph.D. degree (Ph.D.)

The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is designed to provide a single interstate procedure for measuring, comparing and validating qualifications and learning outcomes, facilitating student mobility, simplifying the understanding and comparison of curricula and achievements, both with native and foreign educational institutions. This system is based on an agreement stipulating that the average student can have only 60 credits during the academic year.

The workload includes all types of students’ work: attending lectures, preparation and participation in seminars, practical and laboratory classes, independent work, taking tests and examinations, passing practice, attestation, writing and presentation of course and qualification papers.

The ECTS system is based on the principles of mutual trust of participants which involves the usage of all its components: ECTS credits, assessment scales, study agreements, information packages, academic certificate, Diploma Supplement.

ECTS credits are the numerical equivalent of the workload required for students to achieve the expected learning outcomes, assigned to all sections of the study program (discipline) to determine the student’s workload and perform two functions: determining the complexity of work and accounting for its performance. ECTS credits are awarded to students who have successfully completed the course and received a positive evaluation of their work.

The rating scale is used to simplify the translation of marks, national and 100-point Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University marks.

Scheme of Results Evaluation of Educational Achievements Concerning Applicants of Vasyl’ Stus DonNU

Recalculation of credits for periods of study in higher education institutions under academic mobility programs, dual diplomas and recognition of learning outcomes is carried out on the basis of the European Credit Transfer System. Comparison of the educational load is based on a comparison of the learning outcomes achieved by the higher education applicant at the partner higher education institution and the learning outcomes planned by the Vasyl’ Stus DonNU educational program.

Students who are renewed for training are transferred from other HEI of Ukraine to the DonNU named after Vasyl Stus by academic help.

In order to obtain the first (bachelor) higher education level, a student must collect a certain amount of credits, determined by the curriculum of bachelor training in the relevant field or specialty. The number of credits of the bachelor’s training curriculum equals 180-240 credits.

To obtain the second (master) level of higher education, a student must obtain a certain number of credits, determined by the curriculum of masters preparation of the relevant specialty. The number of credits of the master’s training curriculum is equal to 90-120 credits.

The dean’s department could give the information about:

  • student registration at the beginning of the academic year;
  • class schedule; study certificates, academic certificates;
  • educational rating, the number of obtained credits;
  • scholarships: general, advanced, social;
  • an individual plan for mastering disciplines;
  • recalculation of disciplines;
  • providing academic leave, internships, expulsions;
  • renewal of training;
  • transfer to another specialty, form of study.

The faculty’s department could provide the information about:

  • training curriculum for a specific specialty / educational program;
  • an individual plan for mastering disciplines;
  • enrollment in sample courses, certification programs;
  • Moodle training system;
  • selection of topics for course and qualification works;
  • doing practical trainings.

The Department of Education and Social Work:

  • receiving a single ticket for a privileged category of orphan students and children deprived of parental care;
  • receiving social scholarships;
  • receiving monetary compensation for certain privileged categories of students for living in dormitories;
  • receiving monetary compensation for students from families of ATO participants;
  • dormitories;
  • receiving medical care;
  • participation in creative teams and events of the university, city as well as at regional level

Relevant Questions

How and when could i find out the results of the enrollment?

The study certificate and academic certificate are provided by the Dean / Directorate (Secretary) of the Faculty / Institute.

The term of preparation of the study certificate – 1 day, the academic certificate – 1 week. If the certificate is required for the military commissariat, then it is necessary to contact the Military mobilization department (cab.417).

How and when could i find out the results of scholarship enrollment?

Can i transfer to another form of study?

Yes, if there are vacancies within the license capacity.

Can i study on an individual schedule and under which conditions?

The individual study schedule is provided for up to one semester or another term during the semester, for full-time students.

The schedule may be provided to students:

  • mothers (parents) to care for a child under the age of three;
  • participating in dual degree programs;
  • graduation course, working in the field of your specialty;
  • who have basic or complete higher education and receive a second specialty;
  • who are enrolled in the parallel learning programs and participate in the academic mobility programs;
  • who are pregnant;
  • caring for sick relatives;
  • participating in language (professional) internship programs abroad;
  • with poor health;
  • for other good reasons.

Where could I find the information about getting social, academic and increased scholarships?

The conditions for granting scholarships at Vasyl’ Stus DonNU are defined by the “Rules for the Award of Academic and Social Scholarships at Donetsk Vasyl Stus National University”.

What if I lost my student ID or my student’s record book?

In order to get a new student ID, you must write a statement in the dean’s office / directorate; contact any edition of the newspaper and ask to print out your advertisement on the loss of the document. A copy of the newspaper should be attached to the ID renewal application.

Information for Educators

Dormitories

Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University provides for the housing needs of students using hostels of other higher education institutions located in Vinnytsia (Vinnytsia National Technical University, Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University, etc.) and private dormitories.

The hostels are selected by location, living conditions (block or hallway system, repair, internet availability) and cost.

Settlement in state-owned hostels begins after August 29, in private dormitories – the term is unlimited.

Settlement in state-owned dormitories takes place in order of priority, and students from the Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone as well as students of preferential categories will be settled first.

Foreigners and stateless students, who are undergraduates and graduate students of DonNU, are provided with mandatory accommodation on request of the International Science Education Center.

Vasyl’ Stus DonNU strives to build a full-fledged university campus with housing for students and teachers.

Health Insurance

The University has two medical centers operating in the main building (600-richia Street, 21, 620) and building No. 2 (4, Academik Yangel Street, 227).

Donetsk National University named after Vasyl Stus can receive comprehensive medical care at the Medical and Medical Center of Mother and Child: 50-richia Peremogy, 49 (8am to 8pm, weekend – Saturday, Sunday), tel. 27-33-85.

Health insurance is compulsory for foreign citizens at the time of crossing the border of Ukraine and applying for registration at the educational institution. For medical insurance, please contact the Vasyl’ Stus DonNU International Relations Department.

Higher education applicants are entitled to voluntary insurance in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Compulsory State Social Insurance” of September 23, 1999 (as of January 20, 2018).

Educational Conditions

Donetsk National University named after Vasyl Stus is a powerful complex of educational and production facilities where favorable conditions for learning are created. Higher education applicants have 4 educational buildings, three branches: in Konstantinovskaya, Mariupol and Khmelnytskyi, Business-Innovation Center “DonNU-Podillya”, library, modern educational classrooms, computer classes, educational and scientific laboratories, educational and training laboratories Science camp (Melekino village, Donetsk region), Sokol training and health center (Dronivka village, Donetsk region).

Students of Donetsk National University named after Vasyl Stus are eligible for scholarship. The decision on scholarship is made by the scholarship commission of the University. Scholarships are paid once a month.

Types of scholarships:

  • Academic scholarships, incl. nominal;
  • Social scholarships.

Academic scholarships are paid to full-time students who study on a state (regional) order for their academic success.

Academic scholarships are divided into:

  1. Ordinary (ordinary);
  2. Merit scholarships for applicants who have achieved particular academic success;
  3. Nominal scholarships (the size and the procedure for their appointment are determined by separate legal acts).

1st year students (1st semester) Academic scholarship is awarded on the basis of the competition score received on admission. In the future, according to the rating of success, which is based on a direct measurement of the academic achievements of applicants for higher education from each component of the educational program, which includes all applicants who study at a particular faculty / institute in the relevant specialty.

Higher education applicants have the opportunity to receive the following personal and nominal academic scholarships:

  • Scholarship of the President of Ukraine;
  • Nominal and academic scholarships established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine;
  • Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • Scholarships of the President of Ukraine awarded to the participants and prize-winners of the international student Olympiads in basic educational subjects;
  • Scholarships of the President of Ukraine to the winners of the International Competition for Ukrainian Language named after Peter Yatsik and the International Language and Literature Competition of Taras Shevchenko Student Youth;
  • Other academic scholarships and personal scholarships.

Social grants are paid to full-time students on the basis of laws establishing state benefits and guarantees for assigning social scholarships to particular categories of citizens. Social scholarships are awarded to applicants who have successfully passed the session.

The following students are entitled with social scholarship:

  • Orphaned children, children deprived of parental care, as well as students who have lost their parents during the period of study between the age of 18 and 23;
  • Students who, under the Law on the Status and Social Protection of Citizens Affected by the Chornobyl Disaster, are entitled with scholarships;
  • Students who according to Art. 5 of the Law “On enhancing the prestige of mining work” have the right to receive social scholarships;
  • Students to whom the Law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Concerning State Support for Participants of Military Action and Their Children, one of whose Parents was killed in the Area of Anti-Terrorist Operations, Fighting or Armed Conflict or During Mass Protest, Children, registered as internally displaced for the purpose of obtaining vocational and higher education »is guaranteed to be entitled with a social scholarship.

The amount of the scholarship is regulated by the relevant normative acts of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The University has a Pro bono Law Clinic based at the Faculty of Law, which provides free primary legal aid to unprotected sections of the population, combatants, displaced people, students and citizens.

Within the Pro bono legal clinic there are: two clinics of civil and family law, clinic of labor law and social security, clinic of administrative law.

The Young Lawyer Club was created to provide legal education.

There are two imitation clinics for developing the legal services of business entities; internship for graduate students and young scientists.

Pro bono Law Clinic operates according to the principles of respect for law, justice, human dignity; focus on the protection of human rights and freedoms; humanism; the rule of law; objectivity; free legal aid; confidentiality; competence and integrity.

Pro bono Law Clinic provides free legal assistance in the fields of civil, family, labor, housing, social security law; protection of consumer rights, intellectual property, etc.

Admission of citizens is carried out by consultants of the legal clinic “Pro bono” – senior students twice a week according to the approved schedule.

During the session, as well as vacations, admission and legal aid are not provided.

At the Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, according to the curricula of preparation of applicants for the first (bachelor) and second (master’s) higher education level, compulsory completion is required:

  • educational practices (eg, introductory, specialization, computer, computing, general-ecological and landscape-ecological, folklore, dialectological, sociolinguistic, editorial, museum, ethnographic, educational, archeological, sociological, translational);
  • industrial practice (for example, translation, economic, organizational-managerial, educational-productional, technological, pedagogical, museum-local lore, professional journalism, media education, research, assistant, undergraduate, etc.).

The content and sequence of the practice is regulated through a program that is developed by the department in accordance with the curriculum.

Students’ practical training, internships and employment are coordinated by the University Career and Career Training Center. The Center provides planning, coordination, organization of internships, facilitating the employment of higher education applicants and graduates, as well as forming a university alumni community together with NGO “Association of Students and Alumni of DonNU”, monitors the training and training opportunities of the University employees.

Practical training and internships are carried out at more than 80 practice bases, including leading foreign, Ukrainian and regional enterprises, institutions and organizations of various forms of ownership.

Students can independently, with the agreement of the departments, choose a place of practice within the concluded contracts, or propose new bases of practice for use.

The University is actively cooperating with the State Employment Service, the City Employment Center, recruitment agencies for the further employment of students and graduates.

Extracurricular and leisure activity of students at the university is a whole system of events, activities of the staff of the institution and members of the student government.

Joint organizational mission of the educational process is to provide comprehensive development, promote the level of public consciousness as well as the responsibility of students, to involve them in the cultural life, traditions of the University and the faculty, to diversify the leisure of students, to promote their inclusion in the cultural space of the youth of Vinnytsia

An important form of educational work is the curatorial hour, which facilitates the entry of the student into the educational space, shapes the foundations of corporate ethics and culture of student behavior as an educator – a member of a large family.

Corporate events are an integral part of educational work. On a regular basis occur annual dedication to students, excursions to the University Museum, the festival “Freshman Debut”, “Equator”, University Day, faculty days and many other events.

The implementation of social projects aimed at the benefit of the regional community and the state is an important component of the innovative activity of Vasyl’ Stus DonNU as an open elite academic community, which is a leading center of education, science and innovation. The project activity of the University allows to attract external financial resources for implementation of project initiatives, to create a world-view space (living-learning-community), which provides opportunities to live, work, study, self-fulfill on the principles of academic freedom and integrity, professional dignity and patriotism.

The result of social projects implemented by Vasyl’ Stus DonNU is the creation and improvement of working conditions, training and creativity, replenishment of the intellectual and social capital of the University, expansion of the network of strategic partnership not only in Ukraine but also in the world. The implementation of social projects becomes a platform for students’ self-realization, their social awareness, integration into the social life of the community and society.

A number of successfully implemented structural units, faculties, institutes, student self-government of the University of Social Projects are indicators of openness, high corporate spirit and social activity of the university family:

  • “Walking through the corridors of Stus University in Vinnytsia” is a project of social action, which created an atmosphere of creativity and scientific search in the walls of DonNU named after Vasyl Stus and held an art forum “Creating Ukraine: Intercultural Dialogue within the walls of Stus University”. The project was made possible with the support of the Vinnytsia City Council and the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration, public organizations – Podil Regional Development Agency, Laboratory of Topical Creativity, Center for Innovation and Sustainable International Development as well as the international partner of the British Council. The result of the project demonstrated the real integration of the University into the Vinnytsia community, their close cooperation for the benefit of the city, it brought together artistic students and artists from all over Ukraine.   • “Science is simple!” Is a project aimed at popularizing natural sciences among Vinnytsia students. With the support of the British Council, Ukraine and the CISID Center for Innovation and Sustainable International Development (CISID) program, 5 scientific and promotional events were organized for Vinnytssa students and displaced children. The project covered more than 10 schools in Vinnytsia region, about 900 students, including almost 100 displaced children from the East of Ukraine.
  • Big Brother is a charity project implemented in partnership with the Lviv Education Foundation and the Academy of Success. This project touched upon one of the most pressing problems of modern Ukraine – the military conflict in eastern Ukraine and lasted from August 2017 – April 2018. As a result of the project, a mentoring program for children whose father died during the war in eastern Ukraine was implemented.
  • “Young Officer’s School” – a targeted educational program aimed at training staff for the Department of Economics and Investment of Vinnytsia City Council with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation. The mission of the School of Young Officials was to educate a new type of leader – a decent professional and a patriot who will work with the community and the community of Vinnytsia. In addition, 5 projects of city development were developed under the guidance of mentors.
  • Help If You Can – is a social project to engage students in volunteer community service to help the underprivileged and animal shelters. During the implementation of the Vasyl’ Stus Law Faculty of DonNU, the following activities were carried out: visits to boarding schools for children with developmental disabilities, nursing homes, military hospital, shelter for animals “Planeta” (Vinnitsa) with concerts, financial aid and assistance with work.
  • “Make the child happy” is an annual charity event, which is implemented by the Vasyl Stus Philological Faculty of DonNU. The project is aimed at helping orphans of Zhmerynka. The result was a performance for children “The Snow Queen”.
  • «Smile fair. Show your emotions! ”– a charity fair organized by the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Philology. All the money raised went toward the purchase of gifts for the Zhmerynka Orphanage (children’s items, stationery, toys, children’s books).
  • Bicycle Progressive Movement at DonNU is a social action project supported by the British Council in Ukraine. As part of the Active Citizens program, bicycle parking facilities were launched near Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, and a bicycle quest was held for the youth of Vinnytsia.
  • The Netherlands Government Program – European Partnership Program – is a social and educational project aimed at creating an online education platform for the development of entrepreneurial and social competences of the Donbass population. The project “Educational Online Platform for Development of Entrepreneurial and Social Competences of Donbass Population” was implemented during 4 main stages in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Training courses for unemployed people – a social action project implemented by the Faculty of Economics during 2016-2017 and aimed at assisting the unemployed in improving the skills and competitiveness of students in the labor market. As a result of the final exam, the participants of the program received certificates indicating the completion of their educational courses.

Physical education at Vasyl Stus DonNU promotes all-round harmonious development of the individual, improvement of the student’s mental and physical activity, enhancement of the body’s functional abilities by means of physical culture, as well as provides students with the necessary knowledge, skills in the field of physical education for the purpose of physical education to form a healthy lifestyle.

These tasks are successfully implemented by the Department of Physical Education and Sports of DonNUU named after Vasyl Stus. There are different sections in the department, every year there is a Sports Day for different kinds of sport, academic classes are held in game and training form by highly qualified teachers.

The educational process is a complex of diverse and rich creative and artistic activities implemented at the Vasyl’ Stus DonNU Educational and practical center of cultural and aesthetic development as well as social projects. Various events are organized and held at the University, such as: “Dedication to Vasyl’ Stus DonNU Students”, “Freshman Debut”, “University Day”, “Master’s Degree”, creative competitions, art competitions and more.
