Volodymyr Pavlovych graduated from the secondary school with a silver medal, in 1962 - from the mechanic-and-mathematical department of Dnipropetrovsk state university being specialised in “Mechanics”. 

1964-1965 - post-graduate student of Dnipropetrovsk State University. 1965-1968 - junior member of the teaching staff, assistant professor of the Chair of theoretical mechanics of DSU. 

1968-1975 - Assistant Professor, Professor (1984), Head of the Chair of theoretical and applied mechanics, Dean of the mathematical department of Donetsk State University. During 1975-1986 - first Vice-Rector for educational activity of Donetsk university. Since 1986 - Rector of DonNU, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor, Full member of the NAS of Ukraine. 

Volodymyr Pavlovych Shevchenko is the author (co-author) of nearly 140 scientific works, in particular, 5 textbooks and monographs: “Boundary integral equations in the theory of plates and covers” (1986, co-author); “Tasks of thermoelasticity of thin covers with cuts (1988; co-author); “Mechanics of composites. Concentration of strains” (1998, co-author). Since March 1996 V.P. Shevchenko is the Member of two Councils under the President of Ukraine: first - in the issues of language policy, and the second - in scientific and technical policy. He is also the Member of Presidium of National Council of the Ukrainian Intelligentsia Congress (since 1995); the Chair of Donetsk oblast branch of the Ukrainian Association “Prosvita”; the Member of Presidium of the National Committee of Ukraine in theoretical and applied mechanics (since 1999); the Member of Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine (since 1996); the Head of Donetsk scientific centre of the NASY and the State Committee of science of Ukraine (since 1996); the Head of the Council of Rectors of Donetsk oblast higher institutions (since 1998); the Member of Presidium of the Higher Attestation Committee of Ukraine (since March 2000). 

Volodymyr Pavlovych is the Cavalier of two “Yaroslav Mudryy” orders of IV and V degrees, the “Holy prince Volodymyr” order of IV degree and the “Miner’s fame” honorary sign of III degree, is awarded by individual signs “Excellent worker of the higher school of the USSR”, “Excellent worker of the higher school of Ukraine”, “For valiant work”, “Tutor of youth”. Have been working in higher institutions for 40 years. He was registered in the International reference book “Who is who” (London, publishing house “Europe”, 1992-1993) and Ukrainian reference book “Who is who in the Ukrainian politics” (Issue 3, by May 1996 (Kyiv, 1996) and in following issues) as a Honoured scientists and technician of Ukraine. He is the Honourary Citizen of the city of Donetsk, Deputy of Donetsk obalst council.
